1. General information
Surgical pathology is a necessary discipline in undergraduate dental education because it covers the specific pathology fundamentals of the surgical field required for the development of the dental profession, providing an adequate scientific basis that allows the understanding of the pathogenic and pathophysiologic mechanisms for the elaboration of the diagnostic process and the therapeutic approach.
On the other hand, the approach of the subject and its objective are aligned with the following Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations Agenda 2030 (https://www.un.org/sustainabledevelopment/es/), in such a way that the acquisition of the learning results of this subject provides training and competence to contribute in some extent to their achievement: Goal 3) Health and well-being; Goal 4) Quality education; and Goal 10) Reduction of inequalities.
2. Learning results
1: Know the general processes of disease, healing and repair, including infection, inflammation, bleeding and clotting, scarring, trauma and immune system disorders, degeneration and neoplasms
2: Know the general pathological characteristics of diseases and disorders affecting the organ systems.
3: Perform the diagnosis and therapeutic bases of the main surgical syndromes and the most common nosological entities of surgical pathology related to dental activity.
3. Syllabus

5. Assessment system
Written exam, of 10 multiple-choice questions with 4 items and only one correct answer (3 points), wrong answers deduct 0.3 points, 4 short questions (4 points) and a development question (3 points).
In order to pass the subject, it is mandatory to have completed the surgical pathology practices and to obtain a minimum of 5 points in each part of the exam (test, short questions and development question).
